I love personal challenges and I just thought of a new one for my blog, but I think I need a little help. First a little history:
I’ve been thinking a lot about the challenges I’ve given myself since starting to blog — each with its own mountain to climb, each with amazing views and vistas after having struggled through.
This past summer, I challenged myself to post every day for 30 days. It was summer and I had the time to devote to the task of sitting my seat in a seat for however long it took to conjure up something remotely interesting. I learned a lot about how my brain works and how it translates thoughts into squiggles on the page. That’s a blog for another day — once I figure out how to get those thoughts on paper (or on screen, as it were). What’s important is that I loved the challenge and was happy with some of my writing that it generated.
Then, this fall, I decided I really wanted to spend more time on my photography which always seems to fall to the bottom of that perpetual “to do” list. I’m making a go of this new challenge in the best ways I can. I’m only on Day 12 out of 30, so there’s lots of time to flake out, but I’ll do my best because . . . well, some of you are reading and I feel responsible. Maybe that’s a first-born thing . . . maybe it’s a middle age thing. Whatever it is, I’ll do my best to meet this self-imposed challenge.
But this morning, I had another idea — EUREKA! — and I need to write it down so you will all hold me responsible. I also need some ideas from you. Here goes . . .
The biggest challenge I think I have is carving out time to read other people’s posts and respond to them. I love that we have a community of writers and artists, crafters and creators, and I want to be a responsible community member. Sometimes I’m successful, but often, I read and run. I want to do more. So this is where my next challenge idea has begun to take root.
For my next 30 Day Challenge, I want to do this: I want to promise to discover, read, respond, and write about one new post a day. The original poster will get a comment — and a mention on my blog — and then I will write about my thoughts that the original blogger has sparked. I have no idea what to even call this, so this is where you all come in.
What should I call this thing? I’m open to ideas. I’m hoping for something original and catchy. I know you’re up to the challenge!
Oh….the hardest part of blogging is coming up with titles! But I’ll think about it!!
